Baritone Samuel Chan bids farewell to the COC Ensemble Studio with an all Schubert program. Joined by Stéphane Mayer on fortepiano, they explore the Schulze Lieder and Schubert's heartfelt and insightful world of songs.
Samuel appears as TIny Dan (Dandini) in the COC’s Opera for Young Audiences (COC OYA) production of WOW Factor: A Cinderella Story (Rossini’s La Cenerentola), an english language adaptation with new excerpts by Librettist Joel Ivany and pianist Stephane Meyer. Samuel will be originating the role of the Sychophantic Senator in the world premiere of Rufus Wainwright's new opera, Hadrian. The production will be lead under the partnership of Maestro Johannes Debus and director Peter Hinton, who formally joined forces in the COC's 2016-17 production of Louis Riel.
Samuel will be returning to the Canadian Opera Company as a member of the COC's young artist training program, the Ensemble Studio. To kick off the season, he will be performing the role of the Captain in Robert Carsen's acclaimed Metropolitan Opera production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, under the baton of Maestro Johannes Debus.
